The Dräger TR60, tauchretter

The Tauchretter TR60 is, in the series of tauchretter developed over the years, the first to use a Nitrox mix EAN 50, allowing it to be used at greater depths. In the TR series, the TR60 is a device with pendulum breathing, i.e. the diver breathes in and out through the same hose. Clearly distinguishable from the TR66 where the inhalation and exhalation hose are separate. The pendulum system has the advantage that the gas passes through the scrubber twice but the disadvantage that it makes the breathing gas warmer. This can be uncomfortable for the diver. As the device was used for rescues and escapes, this disadvantage is of course very relative especially in cold water. The advantage is that the system does not need to be fitted with directional valves, making maintenance and reliability great.

The unit is equipped with a 0.8-litre cylinder at 200 bar. The flow is 3.0 litres per minute and the weight is 7.2 kg, slightly lighter than its successor the TR66. The dimensions of the unit 400 x 130 x 400 mm

Therebreathersite was founded by Jan Willem Bech in 1999. After a diving career of many years, he decided to start technical diving in 1999. He immediately noticed that at that time there was almost no website that contained the history of closed breathing systems. The start for the website led to a huge collection that offered about 1,300 pages of information until 2019. In 2019, a fresh start was made with the website now freely available online for everyone. Therebreathersite is a source of information for divers, researchers, technicians and students. I hope you enjoy browsing the content!
