Homebuilder Start Page

This page is the gateway to more than 100 self-built projects. For divers who want to build their own rebreather the page offers a phenomenal source of inspiration. The shown self building projects reflect 20 years of development. For beginning rebreather divers and for students it is a source of inspiration and information. Have fun reading!

This page offers you two routes to navigate to pages with information about the self-built projects.
Route 1: Clicking on the button below will take you to the archive page with all homebuild rebreathers on this webside.
Route 2: The hotspots in the chart below will take you to selected types of homebuild rebreathers.

This chart is meant as a guide to quickly see what type of rebreather you are dealing with. The format works with tags that are indicated with a letter code in the diagram and behind the name with the individual homebuilders. The tags are shown in color per rebreather group. For example, ASCS stands for a Semi-Closed system with an Active Injection system. In this way it is possible to quickly search for a certain type which has been constructed by divers from all over the world. If a certain type is not found, this might be a nice challenge to contribute!

JW

Therebreathersite was founded by Jan Willem Bech in 1999. After a diving career of many years, he decided to start technical diving in 1999. He immediately noticed that at that time there was almost no website that contained the history of closed breathing systems. The start for the website led to a huge collection that offered about 1,300 pages of information until 2019. In 2019, a fresh start was made with the website now freely available online for everyone. Therebreathersite is a source of information for divers, researchers, technicians and students. I hope you enjoy browsing the content!
