The NEMBA (NEtherlands Mixedgas Breathing Apparatus) is specially designed for the Royal Navy and developed by the Royal Navy, after which it was manufactured by the Siebe Gorman company Ltd. The device meets the magnetic and acoustic requirements, as laid down in relevant NATO regulations. (Stanag 1097 and 1131.) The set is mainly used for searching mines etc. in harbors, sea holes and inland waters, while it can also be used at sea when investigating a mine located by a mine hunter. The set is designed to perform this work with the utmost safety. The main requirements for this device in connection with the various firing principles of mines, etc. are acoustic and a-magnetic conditions. Therefore, the metal parts are made of a-magnetic material and a breathing system is designed to meet the acoustic requirements as much as possible. The breathing system is of the semi-enclosed type.

Therebreathersite was founded by Jan Willem Bech in 1999. After a diving career of many years, he decided to start technical diving in 1999. He immediately noticed that at that time there was almost no website that contained the history of closed breathing systems. The start for the website led to a huge collection that offered about 1,300 pages of information until 2019. In 2019, a fresh start was made with the website now freely available online for everyone. Therebreathersite is a source of information for divers, researchers, technicians and students. I hope you enjoy browsing the content!
