1928 Drager Modell KG 1928

Database German Oxygen rebreathers

KG stands for ‘Klein Gasschutzgerät’ and was developed between WW1 and WW2. The model KG1928 was the basis for a successful series of KG 130 and KG160. The KG130 was widely used for gas protection which, with WW1 still in mind, was considered a major threat. Fire brigades and civil protection personnel trained with these devices of which thousands were produced.

Characteristic of the 1928 model is the metal manifold above the scrubber

The 1928 model was a back worn breathing apparatus. The unique feature of the breathing system is the lung controlled gas injection. The KG series has a fork on the outside of the counter-lung that moves with the breathing. This principle has been the applied breathing system for gas protection equipment for decades.

The KG128 is very similar to the KG130 but is easily recognized by the metal connection at the top of the cartridge. The unit is designed for 120 minutes operation.

Therebreathersite was founded by Jan Willem Bech in 1999. After a diving career of many years, he decided to start technical diving in 1999. He immediately noticed that at that time there was almost no website that contained the history of closed breathing systems. The start for the website led to a huge collection that offered about 1,300 pages of information until 2019. In 2019, a fresh start was made with the website now freely available online for everyone. Therebreathersite is a source of information for divers, researchers, technicians and students. I hope you enjoy browsing the content!
