Dräger model BG 172
The successor to model BG 170-400
The Dräger device model 172 was designed by Dräger in 1956. BG stands for Bergbau – Gerät. The breathing apparatus features a lever that activates a metering valve at a certain point during inhalation.
The Model 172 mining appliance worked on the same principle as the Model 160A mining appliance. The cylinder connection was new. Previously, the union nut of the oxygen distributor had to be tightened with a spanner, but now the operator screws the nut, which is fitted with a grip ring, onto the cylinder valve by hand. The warning signal was also moved from the exhalation path to the inhalation path. Approval 1956
Therebreathersite was founded by Jan Willem Bech in 1999. After a diving career of many years, he decided to start technical diving in 1999. He immediately noticed that at that time there was almost no website that contained the history of closed breathing systems. The start for the website led to a huge collection that offered about 1,300 pages of information until 2019. In 2019, a fresh start was made with the website now freely available online for everyone. Therebreathersite is a source of information for divers, researchers, technicians and students. I hope you enjoy browsing the content!
