Kirk Mandt rebuild a FGT-1 adding new bottles and oxygen monitoring
I bought the FGT 1/D in yellow with the regular ¾ O2 screws. It came with the original basket. As gas supply I choose two 3l bottles with the new Nautec SH O2 valve. It perfectly connects to the first stage without modifying the high pressure intakes. The bottles where fitted with a ring of sheet rubber in order to compensate difference in diameter to the original aluminum bottles.
Since all other components where in good condition the system needed intensive cleaning and I changed all o-rings and did a paint job. I choose a gray since lots of black units are around.
Best regards Kirk
FGT Oxygen monitoring.
Monitoring is made possible by products of Submatix. Submatix provides an interface for the Uwatec Oxy2 which is mounted instead of the loop adapter. The unit then can be fitted inside the SCR housing, connected with a pneumatic hose to the O2 sensor. Possible connections in the counter lounge are Dräger P-con and Submatix S-Con. It is also possible to only use one O2 sensor instead of two, which is in conjunction with constant flow acceptable and also saves money. The pneumatic hose can be ordered at any length. The Oxy2 is transmitting the data to the Uwatec Aladin X or Z O2 from the inside of the FGT unit.
Kirk, thank you so much for sharing this project with us. I think you’re in possession of one of the finest FGT’s for diving. A very nice project, thank you for your contribution!
Therebreathersite was founded by Jan Willem Bech in 1999. After a diving career of many years, he decided to start technical diving in 1999. He immediately noticed that at that time there was almost no website that contained the history of closed breathing systems. The start for the website led to a huge collection that offered about 1,300 pages of information until 2019. In 2019, a fresh start was made with the website now freely available online for everyone. Therebreathersite is a source of information for divers, researchers, technicians and students. I hope you enjoy browsing the content!
