1924 Dräger HSS Gerät Modell 1924

The Draeger apparatus model HSS 1924 is a so-called ‘seitenschlauchmodell’ a breathing apparatus where the breathing hoses run under the arm to the breathing apparatus. It was developed for the army and is therefore called ‘Heeres Sauerstoffgerät’. It hangs low on the back to make it suitable to be worn for long periods. The model is a lung-automatic device, which means that the gas supply is related to the breathing frequency of the user. The contralong hangs down like a skirt and appears very unprotected from the environment.

This picture of a fire brigade museum I received from a visitor. The text card mentions the Bergbaugerät Dräger modell 1924, but the unit shown here is the HSS gerat from 1924. The Bergbaumodell can be found on another page in this site.

There is little information available about this device. If you have additional information, we would be happy to add it to this datasheet.

Therebreathersite was founded by Jan Willem Bech in 1999. After a diving career of many years, he decided to start technical diving in 1999. He immediately noticed that at that time there was almost no website that contained the history of closed breathing systems. The start for the website led to a huge collection that offered about 1,300 pages of information until 2019. In 2019, a fresh start was made with the website now freely available online for everyone. Therebreathersite is a source of information for divers, researchers, technicians and students. I hope you enjoy browsing the content!
