1920 Dräger Lungenautomatisches Überdruckgerät, versuchgerät
In 1920 the period in which mainly injector systems were used came to an end. More and more manufacturers were producing lung-controlled systems that injected the gas dose via the counter lung. The picture above shows that a rod ran from the inside of the counter lung to the reducer to allow an amount of oxygen to enter each breath. The system was quite large and was carried on the back. The breathing hoses ran under the arm on one side, therefore this system was also called ‘seitenschlauch’. Because there was a certain overpressure in the system it was called an überdruck system.
This model was specially designed for mountain bau and the seitenschlauch configuration offered great wearing comfort. The disadvantage was the greater length of the breathing hoses. The models were also known as SS_1 1919
Therebreathersite was founded by Jan Willem Bech in 1999. After a diving career of many years, he decided to start technical diving in 1999. He immediately noticed that at that time there was almost no website that contained the history of closed breathing systems. The start for the website led to a huge collection that offered about 1,300 pages of information until 2019. In 2019, a fresh start was made with the website now freely available online for everyone. Therebreathersite is a source of information for divers, researchers, technicians and students. I hope you enjoy browsing the content!
